Welcome to Braidburn School

Looking back on 2011

The times move so quickly and we are perpetually caught in the cycle of preparing for an event, having the event, preparing for the next one... so here we can take a moment for some reflection over the events of last term, re-cap on what has been happening and celebrate the achievements, endeavours and experiences of the pupils at Braidburn.

The pupils from the primary once again put on a fantastic nativity play for Christmas, enjoyed by parents, pupils and staff alike. Click here for more photos.

The school welcomed Radio Forth One presenters Boogie and Arlene, from the popular breakfast show Boogie in the Morning, for a special tuck shop to raise funds for Cash for Kids. Our homemade cake and candy brought in £320! For full information and photos of the day click here.

Braidburn's Bright Start Playgroup was Highly Commended in Edinburgh City Council's Top Edinburgh Children and Families Projects Awards in the Opportunities for All category. Full story on the council website here.

Pupils from our senior phase hosted a coffee morning to raise funds for Anima, a special needs school and development centre in Hermanus, South Africa. Sales of drinks, homebaked treats, cake and candy brought in over £300 for a very good cause. To read more about Anima click here.

Our Rainbow Cafe team won the Inclusive City award at the Edinburgh Council Staff Awards for Excellence. The award recognises a service that has made an impact on the lives of those in the community and has offered an inclusive environment, encouraging and supporting everyone to get active and take part.

Our Harvest Festival was a great success, with the whole school coming together to sing songs and donate goods to an Edinburgh homeless charity. The event was all the more special for being our new depute headteacher Ms. Philips first assembly at Braidburn.

For the second year running one of our pupils received an award in the National Galleries of Scotland Art Competition for Schools. Lewis Youngs was awarded a Special Merit for his painting using the theme Traces, Tracks and Trails. Well done Lewis! More information on the competition can be found here.
